PRESS RELEASE DECEMBER 2011

[OPEN LETTER PDF] [OPEN LETTER HTML]

The Good CME Practice Group calls on European pharma and CME regulators to work together to clarify CME rules.

The Good CME Practice (gCMEp) group (www.gCMEp.eu) has published an open letter calling on the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) and the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries (EFPIA) to work together to develop mutually compatible guidance for commercially supported CME in Europe.

The letter can be read at www.gcmep.eu/gcmep_open_letter_081211.pdf

Following the 4th Annual European CME Forum meeting in Amsterdam (www.europeanCMEforum.eu) and the UEMS meeting in Brussels (www.eaccme.eu), both having taken place in November, the group has expressed their concerns that European CME may be heading for difficult times if workable and relevant guidance is not clear and enforceable.

Eugene Pozniak, Programme Director of European CME Forum and convenor of the gCMEp group says that: "It is exciting that the European CME environment has evolved at such a great pace over recent years, however as practitioners of CME in Europe we are becoming increasingly concerned with the lack of workable and transparent guidance that all parties can follow to ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all involved in the development of CME programmes."

The Good CME Practice Group is a working party of the European CME Forum, a Not-For-Profit organisation, limited by guarantee in England and Wales, no: 7367322, Registered office: Magdalen Centre, Oxford Science Park, OK4 4GA, United Kingdom.
